I am sorry that I have been lacking on blog posts this week, but Grace's first birthday party turned out to be a much bigger project than I anticipated. Now that the party is over it is time to get back to blogging.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We celebrated Grace's first birthday on Saturday with 20 of our closest friends and family. Here is a closer look at Grace's shabby chic party.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was a little nervous on the day of the party because Grace did not sleep well the night before, and only napped for an hour before guests arrived. I was so worried she would have a major meltdown around party time, but I was pleasantly surprised. She could not have been in a better mood. People have always told me that children have no idea what is going on during their first birthday party, but I am pretty sure that Grace knew everyone was there for her. She couldn't wait to come down the stairs to join the party and ham it up for everyone!</div>

This change in weather also means a new wardrobe for Grace. Now that she is already in 24 month clothes she has gone through her entire wardrobe that I bought her when I was pregnant. <i>I was not expecting such a big child.</i> On the plus side that means mommy gets to go shopping.<br>
<br>
Here is what I am loving for spring.<br>

The sun has been shining around here and the weather has been in the 60's. I can't believe it. Grace and I spent a lot of time outside this week enjoying the beautiful weather. This meant that I didn't spend as much time cooking resulting in a lot of light and quick meals, perfect for the gorgeous spring weather. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Meal planning this week did prove to be quite the challenge. Grace has been trying to assert her control over things more and more, and last week her conquests included meal time. She refused to eat anything other than cheese and fruit. Something I was not happy about. My husband and I are not picky eaters in the least and are always up for trying a new recipe. A picky child simply is not going to survive in this household. In order to try and keep her pickiness at bay I attempted to pair some of Grace's favorite foods with other new flavors to create some fun combinations. I also tried hard to introduce different flavors and cuisines from around the world. Luckily this weeks meals were much more successful than last weeks, and Grace gobbled up almost every bite.</div>

<br>
One-size diapers are the most popular cloth diaper on the market today, and are advertised as fitting babies from birth to potty training. Normally the diaper is adjusted by snapping down the front rise snaps or depending on the diaper could be adjusted by tightening the elastic inside the shell. <i>In my experience most one-size diapers were far too large for even my 9lb newborn and seemed to fit starting around 12 lbs. However Rumparooz and Fuzzibunz seemed to run smaller and both fit Grace at birth. </i> Popular one-sized diapers include <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=Bumgenius&linkCode=ur2&tag=adveofamodeho-20&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=MNOXQOWNEREEEPZI" target="_blank">BumGenius</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=ur2&o=1" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXV0HQ6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00CXV0HQ6&linkCode=as2&tag=adveofamodeho-20&linkId=FFY2GGXGPFJ43GDA">Fuzzibunz One Size</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00CXV0HQ6" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HBYOE3C/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00HBYOE3C&linkCode=as2&tag=adveofamodeho-20&linkId=5XEUSQ7FNKOEN3HC">Rumparooz</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00HBYOE3C" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">, <a href="https://amzn.to/30vkjLs">Charlie Banana</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B004OUFRXM" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">, and <a href="https://amzn.to/3bzZLrv" target="_blank">Blueberry Diapers</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=ur2&o=1" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">.<br>
<br>
Sized diapers, on the other hand come, in sizes like small, medium, and large. They tend to offer a more custom and trimmer fit due to the less material that is used. However, you will need to buy two or three sets of diapers to diaper your child from birth to potty training. Popular sized diapers include, <a href="https://amzn.to/2OBb1Lc">AppleCheeks</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00B76GHRG" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">, and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=Blueberry%20diapers&linkCode=ur2&tag=adveofamodeho-20&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=DT74SJRMMQO5KSUL" target="_blank">FuzziBunz Perfect Size</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=adveofamodeho-20&l=ur2&o=1" style="border: none; margin: 0px;" width="1">.<br>

I am so thankful that the weather is getting warmer, and Grace and I have been able to get outside recently. Grace is such an active baby, and for the past few months I have been having a really hard time keeping her busy in the house. Luckily, during those long winter months I did stumble across some toys that kept her relatively busy and kept mommy sane.</div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Paper rosettes are simple to make and can be used to make a variety of different items. I glued mine on to styrofoam balls to make a fun spring decoration for my mantel. I have also seen people make wreaths, floral arrangements, and topiaries with these rosettes. </div>

I swear that every time I walk into the kitchen to cook dinner Grace decides to throw a tantrum. She cannot stand that mommy is 10 feet away and not holding her. It makes it really hard to make a decent meal with a child clawing at your leg. Therefore, my meals have really been lacking the past few weeks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last week, I introduced Grace to shellfish. We had jerk shrimp tacos with pineapple salsa, and Grace loved it even though it was a little spicy. I was so glad there were no adverse reactions to the shrimp. We eat seafood a lot in our household, and now she can join in too. <i>Yay!</i></div>

She was only 4 weeks old and I was completely exhausted. Easter was the last thing on my mind. However, I did manage to throw together an Easter basket at the last minute. It consisted of a soft Peter Cottontail book and a wood rattle.<br>
<br>
This year I have adjusted <i>(at least a little bit)</i> to having a child in the house, and am starting to think of ways to make Easter special. She is a little too young for all of the Easter traditions like scavenger and easter egg hunts, but I can still give her an awesome Easter basket. Here are a few things I have been thinking about putting in her basket.<br>

I have a soft spot for cake stands. They have a way of always making my baked goods look better and add a little pizazz to my table decor. However, all of this beauty also comes with a hefty price tag. I used to spend a ton money feeding my cake stand addiction until I learned that you can make your own at a fraction of the cost. I spent only $10 making these 4 cake stands. </div>

For the past month I have been scouring the internet for the perfect outfit for Grace to wear to her birthday party. None of the big box stores had anything I liked, and the only ones I would even consider were all made to order. Of course, handmade goods while beautiful also come with a hefty price tag. Finally, after some debate I decide to make my own appliquéd shirt for Grace to wear. In addition to saving close to $30 I also got to use the fabric from her party decorations.<br>

As many of you know I have been busy making decorations for Grace's First Birthday. Today I decided to set up the buffet table with all of the decorations I have made so far. I wanted to see how the table was taking shape. While looking at the table set-up something seemed to be missing. The long white tablecloth that hung down to the floor looked so plain. It needed a pop of color so I decided to make a fabric bunting.</div>

<br>
Snaps vs. aplix (commonly referred to as velcro) is one of the great debates in the cloth diapering community. Everyone seems to have their own opinion. Some prefer the ease of aplix while others like the durability of snaps. I have used both closures with Grace, and they each have a place in my stash. The debate is much more complex than some will lead you to believe. You need to decide which is better for your own family. I will lay out the facts and let you decide.<br>

Easy, cheap, and beautiful are my three favorite things in a home decor project. This coffee filter wreath is all three. With coffee filters being dirt cheap this whole project only cost me about $14. While this project takes a little time to complete it is so easy. The end result is result gorgeous and has stood up well to little hands trying to dismantle it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
St. Patrick's Day may not be the biggest holiday of the year, but it may be one of the most fun. When else can you dress in mismatching green clothes and have a drink (or 3) without being judged on your sanity or sobriety? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have always celebrated St. Patrick's Day in my family, and I plan to continue the tradition with Grace. Even if she is only a wee bit Irish (1/8th in fact), March 17th will be filled with tons of Irish food and leprechaun shenanigans. We have been busy preparing our house for this festive holiday even though it is still a few weeks away: the corned beef is in the freezer, Grace's outfit is made, and I have been busy decorating. Prior to the start of the week we did not own any St. Patrick's Day decorations to speak of and now we have a mantel full thanks in large part to Pinterest and some late nights with my glue gun. I even made a fun burlap banner for our mantel, but it could easily by adapted for any holiday. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br></div>
Making meals around here used to be such a hassle. Around 5 pm you could usually find me with my head stuck in the fridge staring at the contents trying to find something to make for dinner. Since we buy mostly fresh produce and ingredients, I would often only have one or two items needed to make a meal. This would often result in some crazy combinations. <i>I think in my desperation we have even had a meal completely comprised of side dishes.</i> Of course, we always had pasta in our house. When I was pregnant I am pretty sure my husband ate nothing but spaghetti with pesto for at least a week because I never got to the grocery store.<br>

<br></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is only 1 month until Grace's first birthday party and my house looks like a ballerina's dressing room. The floors are covered in tulle and glitter, and I have been spending more time with my hot glue gun than my husband. <i>It's a good thing he works all the time or I would start to feel like a bad wife. </i>I know that Grace will never remember her first birthday party, but I can't help it. I always go big when it comes to parties. Over the next month I will be a painting, sewing, hot glueing machine, and will be writing a ton of DIY posts that include everything from decorations to appliquéd shirts. I have even decided to take on the task of baking and decorating a 3 tier cake all by myself. <i>Please pray for me. </i></div>
<br>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-style: italic;"><br></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since I had a bunch of tulle left over from making Grace's <a href="https://www.modhomemaker.com/2015/02/diy-no-sew-tulle-tutu.html">tutu</a> for her <a href="https://www.modhomemaker.com/2015/01/diy-cake-smash-photo-shoot.html">cake smash</a> I decided to use the excess to make a wreath.</div>

Baby, it's cold outside! It has been freezing here this week, and I am tired of it. <i>Why does it have to be cold 6 months out of the year? </i>I can't wait to see the tulips peeking out from beneath the soil. So with a little wishful thinking I have started decorating for spring around the house. I decided the first project I would tackle are some fun painted mason jars. This was such a quick and easy project, and the end result looked great. It honestly only took 5 minutes to do, and I now have some beautiful jars to use as vases, decorations and storage containers.<br>

Prepping is the process of washing your diapers before the first use, so that they can obtain maximum absorbency. This washing process removes oils from natural fibers and cleans any residue left over from the manufacturing process.<br>

I feel like everyone has their preference when it comes to diapers, and what might work for one family or baby does not work for another. We are a cloth diapering family (you can read more about our decision process and routine <a href="http://www.modhomemaker.com/search/label/Cloth%20Diapering">here</a>), so most of my recommendations are going to be geared more towards the cloth diapering mama. While we do try to cloth diaper as much as possible, we did have to use disposables with Grace between 4 and 5 months due to her casts (again, you can read about that journey <a href="http://www.modhomemaker.com/2015/01/our-journey-with-metatarsus-adductus.html">here</a>).</div>

I hope you are all having a good Valentine's Day thus far. We have been celebrating Valentine's Day all week around here with various heart-shaped meals and goodies. Most of these meals were super easy to make and were cooked up in no time. These meals are perfect for a quick meal or dessert and they don't even have to be heart-shaped. Unless you want them to be, of course.</div>

It has been quite the week around here. Grace has not been sleeping well, and I am afraid that she may have another ear infection. She has been really fussy when she isn't held, and I think that a doctor visit may be in our immediate future. On top of that Grace has been on the move a lot recently. She even learned how to go up and back down the stairs all by herself. However, she is still not walking. It has been exhausting keeping up with her this week. Luckily, we got to visit the grandparents for Valentine's Day, and they are always a huge help with Grace.<br>

Gone are the days of wet pails and bleach that your grandmother used. <i>Thank goodness!</i> Today there is a much easier and less time consuming way to wash those stinky diapers. This article will explain everything you need to know to wash your diapers at home.<br>

Normally, I try to plan an activity to get us out of the house everyday, but this week has been brutal. Grace has grow tired of all of her toys and has started to explore her surroundings even more. Due to the open floor plan in our house, I can let Grace explore until her little heart is content and still keep an eye on her. Most days I let her roam wherever she wants and explore anything and everything. Of course, a few of the cabinets are child-proofed, but for the most part she goes wherever she pleases. This has led to some fun and a lot of mess, especially since she loves to empty the contents of every drawer and cabinet within reach. In order to combat some of our boredom and the corresponding messes Grace and I have been busy doing some craft projects this week. Since she is only 10 months old we could not do anything too elaborate but here are some of the projects we did.<br>
