About Me

Hello and Welcome to Modern Day Homemaker

My name is Sara, wife to Anthony, and mama to Grace and Henry. I am a full-time homemaker and am loving every minute of it. OK, maybe not every minute. This blog profiles my journey as I try to keep my child happy, my husband fed, my home clean, and my sanity in check.

About Sara aka The Modern Day Homemaker

Before I met my husband I was a small town girl who had dreams of going to grad school and working a high profile job in the big city. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever be a stay-at-home mom. Yet, here I am. So how did this happen, you may ask? To be honest I am not exactly sure. Maybe it was fate, maybe finances, but whatever drove me to stay at home, I am glad it did.

I met Anthony, my husband, during my Junior year of college. A mutual friend told me he knew someone I had to meet. After a good month of hesitation, I agreed. We hit it off that night and have been inseparable ever since.

After just a couple months of dating I left to study abroad, and on my return I proposed to Anthony. You heard that right, ladies. I was the one to propose. It was not a romantic proposal in the least. We were in a hotel eating pizza and watching the news. I simply turned to him and asked, "So, do you want to get married."  To my surprise he said yes and we went ring shopping the next day. Of course this is not the romantic proposal a girl dreams about, but it worked for us.

A couple months later Brad took me on a date to downtown Minneapolis. Without me knowing he somehow rented out the observation deck of the Foshay Tower. While we were alone checking out the views, he dropped to one knee and presented me with the ring we picked out. While I was swept away in love, I was still just a junior in college and my plans for the future had to change. It was no longer just my life, but ours.

So after graduating, finding jobs (boy, was that tough), and building our first home together we decided to get married in 2012.
A year later our lives would change again as we found out we were expecting our first child. Grace (her middle name) was born in March 2014. She was 11 days late and still continues to do things on her own timeline. I thought I knew everything about babies after working in childcare for 8 years, but nothing could have prepared me for the challenges and joy that came with having my own child.

Grace is my strong-willed, dramatic, and analytically minded little girl. She loves princesses just as much as she loves playing in the mud and coding robots. It will not surprise me in the least if she grows up to be an engineer or at least an actress.

When Grace was 1.5 years old we welcomed our son Henry (again his middle name) in January 2016. I am so lucky that he was a calm baby as Grace was a very difficult toddler. I can't believe I made it through the terrible twos with my sanity intact. Or at least I like to think I did. Thank God for coffee!!! Today Henry is still as easy-going as ever and loves chasing after big sister.

Recently, we have moved into our forever home in a small town in Minnesota. This is truly our dream home and we spend most of our nights busily remodeling it. I can't wait to share our journey with you.

I am so happy you are here and I hope you enjoy following along.
